Music

Post  The Lionheart on Thu Feb 07, 2008 10:42 am

Let's get a new topic going. Technically, we are Japanese MEDIA Society, so I wanna hear some music suggestions here. I've got some stuff, but I wanna get some more opinions as to what's good from overseas.

Lately I've been listening to Rhymster and a lot of old stuff from Utada I found on my old computer at home. A lot of song titles from Rhymster are in japanese so i can't suggest many songs to look for [much less read them] but give Heat Island a try.

Okay, let's hear some suggestions...

Anything made by Atsushi Shirakawa, goes by the name of Tenmon is great, he's composed the OST's for Makoto Shinkai's works like Byousoku 5cm and voices of a distant star, as well as ef a tale of memories.
As for jrock n such I don't really listen to too much foreign music from japan so I can't comment on anything but I do enjoy the piano works done by alot of japanese people.

Well if it's Japanese music you're looking for... I'll suggest these groups to you.

KAT-TUN- I don't know how into boy bands you are, but KAT-TUN is a 6 member Japanese boy band who is part of Johhny's Entertainment. Right now they're one of the more popular ones. They sing ballads all the way to rockish music. I reccomend you try their new single " Lips" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTBuW31hIFw

You already know about Ootsuka Ai and Hikki and BoA, so I won't bother with that. ( but check out BoA's new Album " The Face".

Have you tried Namie Amuro yet? She's the Queen of hippop, she came out before Ayu, so she's been around for a while. Her latest album " Play" took number one int he charts for a while, it's really good. Can you believe this lady is 30 and has a kid? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLASD9O1trw

You might like DBSK, or I think they're called Tohoshinki in Japan. They're actually a korean group, but they sing in japanese too. KAT-TUN is better though.

Yuna Ito usually has some really nice songs out. Her latest is actually a duet with Celine Dion. But a song of her's you might like is I'm Here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfkQAb_ZRVs

ERIKA is also a singer that's starting to get really popular, mainly from her acting, but she's been releasing some music lately. " Destination Nowhere" is her newest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_Wf-j2e05g

I'll bring my harddrive next time and anyone who wants Japanese music can take it from me, if you want. I mostly have jpop that isn't anime related though.

If you like metal or just heavier music in general I like to listen to Dir en Grey. Anyone got any other good Japanese music along the same lines as this?

Maximum The Hormone is good if you like Dir en Grey. Also check out Gazette and Gilgamesh! Their stuff is really good!

The Pillows for sure.
Anything by them is great.
That and anything arranged by Yokko Kanno is a must.

This is probably a stupid thing to say but hey im pretty silly so lets give it a shot...

I was in club for the premier of Soul Eater and I loved the song "Resonance" by TM Revolution (that was the opening song for this anime). Does anyone know if I can find this song legally anywhere? I looked on itunes and couldn't find it (I even requested it from itunes). Does anyone have any other connections and sources that have this song (preferrably not too expensive)?

Drat, Blast, & Bebother!!! Oh well, if you could that would be lovely. All I am doing right now is when I wanna hear it I go to youtube.com and watch the opening. A little weird cuz the sound isnt so good and then doesn't flow really nicely into the rest of my playlists. Thank you so much.

Y'know Gendou has this and the ending theme song. megaupload wasn't required....of course they're both tv edits as well.

But man, it's been a while since i heard a really good song from TM Revolution that stuck in my head. I can't wait. The guys who did the ending also did "No Boy, No Cry" from Naruto as well, right?
