Other Japanese Media
Ok well if you ask me or my friends the name of our club and most of the time we will say Anime Club. Why you ask? Because all we do is watch anime. I understand that anime is indeed a japanese media and once in a while we do watch the life action remake of an anime or manga series but there is much more to do with japanese media. I was talking to a certain group member today and I think this deserves a post.
They would like to see other media put into the club. It could be a Japanese artist or musician or anything. They also talked about manga in the club but I believe a year or so ago we talked about this in club and we decided it against it for many reasons. Some of them were that not everyone reads the same speed, not everyone reads the same manga, and others will have read the entire thing already. This is alright with anime because well... if you don't like it you do something else and everyone is always at the same spot. There is no waiting for the page to be turned.
While I personally would rather have the club say the way it is I thought it would be nice to have some others feedback in this issuse.

Re: Other Japanese Media
I don't care really myself, I personally enjoy anime the best of Japanese video media because as entertaining as Japanese game shows are they get old fast, and as live action Japanese goes.... IMO they're horrendous actors, I think this is one factor why they have such a large anime industry.... because they only have to act with their voices. As far as manga and music go, I'm always open to new music, Japanese included so if anyone wants to share a certain artist, or let us know of other good songs that artists who do songs mainly for animes have I'd enjoy that, and as for manga... it'd be kinda weird just having people read and trying to figure out when it's time to flip the page, you could try a storytime thing where some1 reads the manga out loud while people look at it and follow along but.... We're in college now I dunno who would be against/for that.
Although we have shown Japanese live movies in club before, mainly last year, I kinda thought that we used the name Japanese Media Society mostly so that we wouldn't have to use the name "anime club" because not everyone in the world knows what anime is, but maybe newcomers would want to know what "Japanese media" is which entails anime to a high degree. Even though I'm open to anything, I never really considered 100% anime a problem.

Re: Other Japanese Media
I think that it would be wicked awesome to include more aspects of Japanese media. This club does not address Japanese haute couture, street fashions, music, 2-d art, 3-d art, tv shows, new weapons designs, new technologies, new game designs. This would be so fascinating to me and I completely agree that manga would be kinda difficult.

Re: Other Japanese Media
I would not google it where others can see the screen.
I like the idea of including other Japanese media, maybe even assign people a different aspect of Japan to present at the meetings, some one doing weapons, another doing fashion, and so forth. I've noticed that there is some dead time at the start of club for us to do more.

Re: Other Japanese Media
That is true. For the first half hour is we do nothing at all (still don't know why) and someone could present something they found interesting during this time.

Also if you want to watch something, speak up in club. The worst I can do is shoot you down (in more ways than one).

Re: Other Japanese Media
Well I always say something at the start of club. I'm just typically ignored so after a bit I just don't want to talk anymore. You should come in with a lineup. That's what has happened in years past and it worked very well.
