Upcoming cons?
I know there was a thread about the Phoenix Cactus Comicon, which was considered "The Con", lol. But how about some other anime conventions coming up? I know Anizona this year got canceled, but at least there's Saboten-con coming up in May, right?

Re: Upcoming cons?
Yes, unfortunately Arizona doesn't have very many well established cons, a lot of the attempts so far have ended in dispute and bankruptcy for the planning committee.
What we do have coming up is Saboten Con, planned for May 24-26.
Not much of the details are known but they will update soon and need volunteers
for more info:
http://sabotencon.com/
Other cons near to us:
Fanime - San Jose, California (May 23-26)
http://www.fanime.com/
*Anime Expo - Los Angeles, California (July 3-6)
http://www.anime-expo.org/
*Comicon International - San Diego, California (July 23-27)
http://www.comic-con.org/cci/
* Large con, Anime Expo gaged 41,671 attendees in 2007, Comicon International gaged approximately 125,000.
All of these cons are pretty well known, but there are certainly smaller ones around, which can be really fun to go to with friends. In addition there are clubs and forums in Arizona which host events such as gaming tournaments, picnics, cosplay competitions, and outings specifically for people in Arizona.
Check out Arizona Hobbyist Paradise - they're a major sponsor of a lot of the local cons: http://www.arizonahp.org/index.html

er, hope that helps ^^ - I'll be going to Saboten, AX, and probably San Diego

Re: Upcoming cons?
So I checked my E-mail today like usual and I dunno when or how or why I was signed up for the Saboten-con newsletter, I think I've been to the site like once, and only the main page at that. But they sure know how to attract attention.. I mean right in the subject title it says
Maid Cafe, Cosplay Chess, and Stillman Blades Sponsorship!
I found myself chuckling at the fact that in the e-mail itself the maid cafe is actually the third topic listed with the shortest description of any of them. These people are fucking crafty. Obviously the best way to target the otaku demographic to attend their con is to stick out maid cafe as clear as day to see. This works easily on me though (even though I'll be at fanime so I can't attend) especially when this paragraph sounds so good, in a bad way. lemme post some of these sentences for the poor souls who didn't get this e-mail
".....sweetest treats and cutest maids!""Enjoy yummy treats like fresh-baked fudge brownies and gourmet pastries for a small cost. And don't worry, we'll keep you entertained while you eat!"
so.... cute maids are going to keep me entertained for a small cost? wtb ticket to Saboten-con plz.

Re: Upcoming cons?
Now that the Summer cons are coming to an end... Lets get prepped for some Fall and Winter Cons. Some out of state and local events have been posted so here's what I was able to find.
Anime Vegas 8-29-08
http://www.animevegas.com/
CopperCon (Arizona) 8-29-08
http://www.casfs.org/cucon/
AdventureCon: 10-25-08
http://www.adventurecon.com/az.html
Kikikon: 11-15-2008
http://kikicon.ourotakuclub.com/
Anime Vegas is... is Vegas, but is a relatively larger convention than most of the Az local cons.
CopperCon is not really an anime convention, it is a fiction-gamer-hobbyist convention... attended by quite a few anime fans (like Comicon, but vastly smaller)
AdventureCon ... I know nothing about, but Kevin Sorbo is supposed to be there, HERCULES!
Kikikon is a small one day event hosted by our Sister Campus, ASU West. The competition is on ;p
If anyone is interested in a weekend trip and room sharing to reduce cost for Anime Vegas, contact me

Re: Upcoming cons?
I can't go to Vegas again this summer sadly it's too much money plus that's shortly after school starts.
Coppercon...after going to comicon I realized that I dislike non anime-only cons
Adventurecon lol
Kikikon also lol, but its so close and its one day so I'll check it out
