Passport to ASU 09
Passport to ASU will be on Saturday, August 22nd from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. This year's event will be located throughout and between the Student Recreation Complex (SRC) and the renovated Memorial Union!
Passport is an opportunity to reach more than 5,000 students and their families as part of Fall Welcome Week. Seize the opportunity to recruit new members, publicize upcoming events/meetings, and increase awareness of your group.
Deadline for registration is July 31st, 2009. A fee of $10 will be charged to groups/organization that are "no-shows" or those that fail to cancel within 48 hours of the Passport event.
This next year I definitely plan to get the club involved in this. It helped to bring attention about the club to people 2 years ago and this last year JMS did not participate thus partially the reason to a lower than expected attendance rate.
I know i saw the setup a couple years ago but I was not a part of it so I don't exactly remember how it was set up.
Anybody have any plans on how or what we should display at our booth?
Edit:
Apparently I hadn't updated this but I have registered the club for Passport, it would be great if we had a handful of people to represent the club for that day. Again as for what to display, ideas?
Re: Passport to ASU 09
I dunno how many people in the club have graduated or whatnot but the number of people that post on this forum is abysmal I feel like it's just a place for me Thahn and Brian to talk on sometimes, but regardless of that and regardless of the fact that I haven't been able to show up to the club pretty much at all last semester I want the club to live on so if I can I'll definitely help out with this.

Just received an email with generic details for Passport.

* Passport is going G R E E N !
o Use you reusable, recyclable water bottles!
o Bottles can be filled outside at the various water hydration stations
o Participants are encouraged to embrace a “green theme”!
o Consider using less paper handouts & more innovative engagement ideas, such as list serves, internet and other electronic mediums.
o Consider using a “green” display by using green-friendly materials.
o Tables & floors should be kept free of trash.
* The Memorial Union, WP Carey Patio and Student Recreation Complex
o Help us celebrate Passport by respecting & appreciating the opportunity to represent the Sun Devil Way.
o The ONLY food that will be allowed at tables in the Memorial Union Ballrooms, WP Carey Patio, and Student Recreation Complex Gyms is store-bought, pre-packaged, individually-wrapped candy! No other food or drink is allowed!

Re: Passport to ASU 09
I'd love to help out, and maybe I can stop by, but I will be doing something with another club that day, so I don't know how I can help. If there is anything that can be done leading up to the event, I'll gladly help out. I think this is a brilliant idea, and a sure way to get our group out there and get more people involved! Awesome guys!

Re: Passport to ASU 09
Right now priority is mainly gathering ideas on what we want to.
How do we want to address this club to people who pass by?

I think it'd be best to keep it Japanese Media Society just so that it pique's a broader audience's interest.

Re: Passport to ASU 09
So like,
I presume this turned out to be a big success as 70 people, exactly (since I counted), signed their name with email for the club.
As awesome as this might sound, this kind of worries me. I'm not certain that the rooms reserved, with the exception of a few, can support 50+ people.
When I get around to shooting out emails don't be surprised in some amount of increase in activity on these boards.
I'll see how the first meeting turns out, if we're basically crammed, we're out of luck for the first 2 meetings as for changing most likely but there's a chance I can upgrade in size for most of the following weeks.
Edit: I did happen to see one fellow new member, Natt (NaraGW), at passport. Best of luck for JMS 09-10

If everyone keeps their mouth shut, you can easily floor/table the new inflow.

Hee, 70? Wow, that's amazing. ^^ I'm happy you had a turnout; I'll admit I was a bit worried when I first arrived since it was just Anthony with his laptop, but it seems like you had success. Congratulations. I guess I'll see you guys at the first meeting.

Re: Passport to ASU 09
Well I've written up an email to send out, haven't sent it out yet, will be done tomorrow (1 week before first official meeting). Hopefully I've got all the proper email addresses for everyone who signed, not everyone has legible handwriting. This means I've thrown in numerous guesses for certain addresses so hopefully 1 of them will reach.
I am putting into consideration of throwing up fliers around campus over the weekend for when people return to class on Monday and on throughout the week to see. For all hopes in anticipation of our first meet.
