Video games?
Figured this would go under here since the majority of this forum is mostly about anime and manga, etc. I was merely thinking about how Golfland has DDR Supernova 2 now, so I figured I'd make a thread about video games.
So what kind of video games do you guys like playing? What's the first game would you say that got you into playing?
For me, I like fighting and music in particular. I'm not so good at fighting games, yet I like playing just for the heck of it. Same with music games too. Though I'd like to play more video games later on.

Re: Video games?
I prefer RPG's, action/adventure games, some puzzle games (like the Myst series), and horror games. There are way too many that I like, so I'll just say that some of my favorites are Fatal Frame 2, Zelda: The Twilight Princess, Guitar Hero, Soul Calibur 3 (lookin forward to 4!), and Shadow of the Colossus.
What game really got me into gaming? Well, I loved playing at my friend's house when I was little, and he had an NES, so I suppose Duck Hunt. My first personal games that got me started (all from the Sega Genesis) were Sonic the Hedgehog, TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist, and Streets of Rage 1 & 2. I still have those games on my emulator, lol!
I'm not too skilled at fighting games either, although I'm fair with Soul Calibur 3 and Naruto: Gekkitou Ninja Taisen 4 (known as Clash of Ninja in the states). The physics of most fighting games are just hard for me to get used to, not to mention the complex move sets, guard breaks or counters, etc.

Re: Video games?
I'm pretty much a fan of all game genres other than sports. I'm mainly interested in the "bullet hell" type of shooting games like Ikaruga, the Touhou series, or other doujin shooters. I also like strategy games (both real time and turn-based) such as Warcraft/Starcraft, Advance Wars, Disgaea, Ogre Battle, GrimGrimoire, etc. I'll occasionally play puzzle games like Tetris and Puyo Puyo but only with other people. RPGs are less of my thing nowadays, but that doesn't stop me from spending 100+ hours on games like Disgaea, Odin Sphere, Valkyrie Profile, etc. Adventure games like Okami and Zelda are fine by me too. I used to play DDR back in middle school but I've pretty much stopped playing on my feet.
I'm pretty sure most people know already, but it's mostly fighting games for me now. By 'fighting games' I mean Guilty Gear (best fighting game ever made - don't even try to argue). Of course, I'll still play games like Melty Blood (lawl), BBB (lawl), Soul Calibur (which I used to be really into), KoF, CvS, or whatever else, but GG is still the best.
I started way back on the NES with classic games like Tetris, Contra, and Dig Dug. For most of my childhood, it was basically massive amounts of emulation of Gameboy (pretty much just Pokemon) and SNES games. My most memorable SNES game would probably be Tactics Ogre, which I completed fully in Japanese - finding out what absolutely everything in the game did by trial and error, but I also remember playing through Tokimeki Memorial, which is impossible for me to describe in words (everyone should play at least one dating sim at least once in their lives). After a while it went to PSX emulation for games like Front Mission 3, FFIX, Valkyrie Profile, Chrono Cross, etc. Now it's pretty much ps2 and PC piracy for all my gaming.

Re: Video games?
Everything.
I love video games and am willing to try different games.
I don't have one favorite genre, the only genre I dont' really get into is sports games to be honest. And it's probably cause my favorite sports titles were the insane ones like NFLBlitz and NBAJam (the first ones were good and then it was a sad downward spiral)
I love to go to arcades cause there's occasionally fun competition there. I've gotten back into Street Fighter since I've been back at ASU (has me wondering if I'm here for school or games) and I also like to play DDR (gotten MUCH better at that since I've been at ASU)
Haven't gotten in too big with MMORPG's or a lot of online games but it's not that I don't want to it's either, don't know how to get a hold of 'em or I don't have enough time.

Re: Video games?
So what kind of video games do you guys like playing?
Strategy mainly (RTS or TBS, doesn't matter to me). I enjoy games like Dawn of War and Advance Wars. Currently I'm looking as to whether or not to get Sins of a Solar Empire.
Another genre I enjoy are fighting games, particularly Guilty Gear. For fighters, I tend to enjoy 2D games rather than 3D, though there are exceptions like Soul Calibur.
I also find RPGs enjoyable and am especially fond of RPG Strategy games (provided the heroes don't end up too crazy). Favorite in this genre is the Super Robot Wars series. Seeing MazinKaiser beating down Providence Gundam is rather amusing. Otherwise in RPGs, Final Fantasy </= 7 are enjoyable and my eyes have bled playing Morrowind. Okay that was a lie, only one eye actually bled. I have visited the MMO scene before with Neverwinter nights, but after I usually ended up representing in the game what I did in RL (sitting in a chair for several hours), I decided to call it quits.
Lately though, I find myself preferring the comforts of single player games/settings. Generally people I find playing online are pretty moronic, leaving me with a very disappointed feeling at the end of the match. My only wish was an improved AI for strategy games, especially the games with a diplomacy like setting (what, the AI won't accept my peace proposal even after I destroyed 3/4s of their standing army and reduced them to a single bankrupt providence?). This will change when DoW Soulstorm is release, in which case I'll get back to mopping the floor.
Tough one, I suppose Duck Hunt was the first game I got started on. The gateway game for me though was super mario brothers on the SNES, as my cousin gave me the system as a present. Other stuff like FF3, Kirby, and Shining Force helped cultivate my gaming experience to what it is today. What's the first game would you say that got you into playing?

Re: Video games?
I play mostly any game, as long as I can play it I will, but I mostly spend time with rpgs. I used to play multi player type games, but I did not like the experience. i.e. me+sibling+friendly game of pokemon stadium=pain. I like playing fighting games especially soul caliber (nightmare from II, yeah)and melty blood (Ciel, woot). Shooting games are fun, but I get ridiculed by my friends/family for my auto aim. MMOs look fun, but I do not have the patience to deal with lag or other people.
Although I did play sonic and other old generation games, I do believe that pokemon red or blue set me on my path toward gaming.

But really, I like music games and LOVE racing games. I'll beat your ass at a console racing game, more specifically Gran Turismo.
I'm ok at arcade racers like initial d, but just ok.
And gotta love GTA

SNES = love.
I love the DS too. ^_^; I've been playing video games since I was a little kid, but those two are my favorite platforms so far. I just bought Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I don't know what I was thinking... my brain is rotting out of my skull.

I love playing the SNES. I'm surprised that mine's still working, even though it's over at my big brother's house and the nephews started playing it now.

I have mine still as well, and it's working in pretty much near perfect order.

Re: Video games?
No kidding. I wonder how the heck Nintendo makes their products so durable. My SNES withstood being thrown into the ground, my Gamecube survived a run-in with a can of Sprite (the reset key still sticks) and all my handhelds have been dropped too many times to count. You'd think at least the shock would kill em from the inside out.
I've heard about other people's bad experiences, but all my Nintendo products have been pretty hardy.
And uh...you threw a bowling ball out of frustration? >_>

Re: Video games?
Yea, pretty much. Learned that move from my uncle who has destroyed countless controllers with that method. I believe my original Nintendo got defeated by a piece of bread. My sister thought the Nintendo was a toaster and stuck bread in there. Somehow after that day it never worked again....

Re: Video games?
Heh heh, I've always been a gamer first and foremost. The first game that got me into gaming was Super Mario Bros. After that I got my first system (SNES, which came with Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart)
I'm into a lot of game types, except Sports, Racing, and fighting games. I was never that good at fighting games, too many combos and stuff for me to remember. I really love shmups, like Gradius or Ikaruga. they're awesome. Unfortunately, US shmup releases are so few and far between nowadays. But yeah, my tastes vary.
Right now I'm trying to get through Call of Duty 4, Phoenix Wright and eventually Disgaea 2

Re: Video games?
Video games @__@ Where do I start. . .
I <3 The Legend of Zelda. @w@; But we already know that due to my name and sig. Anyways, I'm a loyal Nintendo fan. My brother and I collect the systems and games and well, I'm not going to brag the number or the cost of them x.X I swear my collection is worth more then my jeep I bought over the summer. Anyhow, RPG, adventure, action, and fighting games are my favs. I'm not really into racing unless its Mario Kart or Kirby Air Ride. . .well more like Racing + destruction mayhem. Gotta love those items. Shooter games. . .well I'm starting to like them, thanks to Metriod but other then that, I never been good at shooter, UNLESS its 007 golden eye for the N64, setting = License to kill, and with any fast pace gun. One Hit KO works for me <.<; As for anime-related games, I get the DBZ Budokai and Tenkaichi games. Now now. . I got to admit, I got a PS2 just for those games <.<;; well more like my bro *try to remove guilt* His a bigger DBZ fan than me. ( o.o not that I"m saying PS2 is bad, their great and got a bigger selection of games, I just like to stick with Nintendo) Lets see, if I were to pick a favorite game, that would be hard, so I gotta pick a genre or a time period.
Past = The Legend of Zelda II: Adventure of Link, Flying Dragons and Skies of Arcadia
Present = Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn (I refuse to say Radiant Dawn >.< )
Future = why Super Smash Brothers Brawl of course ^__^;;
okay, I'm done. *goes play Phantom Hourglass*
