As the subject suggests, what's your favorite science fiction anime series/movie? I ask this out of curiosity and also so I might have some good recommendations for me to watch.

As for my current favorite, I love Ghost in the Shell. I've seen the all three movies as well as all of the Stand Alone Complex. I hope to get my hands on 2nd Gig soon so I can complete my library. The story shows what I believe to be a very possible future, although how close that future is I can't tell, for humanity and technology. The incredible mating of human and machine puts the Terminator series to shame with its use of cybernetic enhancements for both body and mind, which seems to put the concept of the human soul in question (not about whether or not it exists, but what it exactly is and how it exists).

My favorite character is Kusanagi Motoko, aka the Major, the main protagonist of the series. I will agree with many a male that her physical body, at least the one she chooses to inhabit the majority of the time, is strikingly gorgeous. However, it is not this which I love her for. Her character is that of a strong, intelligent, wise, and extremely capable leader within Section 9. As hot as she is, bluntly put, the way she carries herself makes me, as well as her teammates, respect her at a level that simply calling her hot would be a great injustice. If you have never seen anything from Ghost in the Shell, I heavily recommend it.

Bubblegum Crisis 2040

I want a hard suit and I want to be a knight saber. Those girls were so tough, they're my heroes.

Tekkaman Blade

Largely this is due to a bias spawning from this show being the first series I picked up as a child and what probably got me into anime. Since then, I've finished the series (the original dub was canceled half way), watched the extra 3 ovas, and did not let the horrific 6 ova sequels ruin the thing for me. The only thing that really bugged me about the show was the use of the superman theme for the henshin scenes.

Plot Summary: The story is of a hero defends world against alien invaders, but they made it a pretty tragic story so it ended up being enjoyable for me.

Tekka-Armor for me, provided I wouldn't be transforming from the OVA henshin scene (man that looks painful). Nothing like laughing off a nuclear blast and delivering people a stabbity demise.

Well, Science encompasses a lot of topics so I'll just say my favorite fictional movie with science involved is Minority Report.
Favorite sci-fi series? Yeah... I'm going to go with Ghost in the Shell as well, followed closely by Dennou Coil, Noein, and Serial Experiments Lain. Its so hard to decide...
I'll just edit this if I remember something I liked better.

I've heard of all those, but I haven't actually watched many of them myself. I should stop being lazy, lol. Also, make sure to keep the talk about anime in all aspects (Minority Report is live-action) since this is an Anime Discussion board. Nothing against you Chumara, I just want to make sure it stays within the correct type.

TokiKake is awesome. I guess it counts as a sci-fi (just the time travel bit) but that's not really the whole focus or anything. I guess I'd say Scrapped Princess, since it's the only anime that ever pulls off a good fantasy to sci-fi transition (unlike Utawarerumono :p). There's a lot of other stuff to choose from, though. Heck, even Haruhi counts as a sci-fi at some points. I'll also say Last Exile, Ergo Proxy, Jyu Oh Sei, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Voices of a Distant Star, RahXephon, Aria, and Kino no Tabi, just to name some other good stuff that hasn't been mentioned yet (note how I didn't mention Final Fantasy Unlimited/Advent Children/Spirits Within, Saikano, Trigun, Black Heaven, Lost Universe, Appleseed, or Wonderful Days). Also, the majority of mecha series could also be considered sci-fi.

Whoa! It's been years since I've seen that! I forgot all about that series. That's way better than what I was gonna suggest!

*takes Code Geass and throws it out a nearby window!*

[Knight Sabers > Order of the Black Knights]

Does Gurren Lagaan count as Sci-fi too...to those who have seen at least where I am in the anime? Watch for spoilers [<---- in b4 spilers!]

Oh man in a brighter light due to what Brian has mentioned, I can't even figure out what to say now, cause its true almost every anime has a science fiction aspect to it. I take back my previous answers and refuse to answer this due to the fact that if Haruhi is considered sci-fi then it would be my favorite, maybe we can narrow down the topic a bit more?
