Well for those who haven't been paying attention to the um... less than a week of events. Tokyo has approved bill 156 to come to vote, which would, "... require the industry to also regulate "manga, anime, and other images (except for real-life photography)" that "unjustifiably glorify or exaggerate" certain sexual or pseudo sexual acts. Another section of the revised bill would allow the government to directly regulate the above images if the depicted acts are also "considered to be excessively disrupting of social order" such as rape." (ANN 2)

It also has a non-binding supplement, but well... you can guess how much people will probably pay attention to that part.

Though it is technically only up for voting on the 15th, the general feeling is that it'll pass short of an Act of God or say... people firebombing the building, not that I'm suggesting anyone go firebombing. If passed, it'll go into effect on July 2011. Another way to interpret that is the publishers have until July 2011 to get out of Tokyo and go somewhere friendlier like Kyoto. No clue what's going to happen with anime since the broadcasters are apparently in Tokyo. Akihabara will probably remain as is since there's already an ordinance that, "...bans "sexually stimulating, encourages cruelty, and/or may compel suicide or criminal behavior" to people under the age of 18" (Ann 2).

I might be making too much of this. I mean there was the last time. FYI, it's been a year and nothing has changed AT ALL, so yeah I called that one right.

Yeah I read about that, honestly I don't think it'd affect me much, most of the anime I enjoy doesn't really fall under a lot of those categories.
