Re: Random Anime Thread
So my marathons for this in-between seasons hiatus are going to be:
Finishing Outlaw Star
The entire (3 season) Nanoha series
Joshiraku
Have any of you seen Nanoha, should I expect good things or not. All I know is, it has some kind of cult following and everyone loves that Fate chick. Also the animation in season 1 look like ass, luckily it's only... 12/13 eps.
ALSOOOOOO
Why was I never told about the Touhou Gensou Mangekyo Phantasm Memories anime short? It had no (paid) voice acting but the animation was wayyy better than Touhou Musou Kakyou, and it was more.....entertaining. I guess a second episode of this was supposed to come out earlier this year but I don't see it anywhere nor a synopsis for it on the wiki, I'm guessing something happened.

Re: Random Anime Thread
I've heard nothing but good things about Nanoha, but I haven't seen it (or those other two shows) myself. Can't help you there, unfortunately.
For my in-between season schedule, I've got Steins;Gate, a few episodes left of Kids on the Slope, and possibly a rewatch of Haruhi (one of my roommates just started watching it). Also considering Death Note, just because it's probably the most popular anime that I haven't seen.

I tried to watch StrikerS. In the end I dropped it. Heard the earlier ones were good though.

I have the feeling that I missed whatever was "great" about Nanoha because I got really bored watching the first show.

Re: Random Anime Thread
Things are looking up already I guess.
So K was a terrible show. On the other hand To-Love-Ru has increased in quality since the first season where I rated it "garbage" and I just rated Darkness, "meh".
Oh and the ending of Tales of Symphonia sucked hard, I hate to see good games ruined by the ending.
At least I have to assume the anime followed the game story.

Well, got around to finishing Seizon L2. Ugh, the teacher represents the problem with L2. A lot of character related things were changed and not for the better. Also lack of dedicated episode for Chizuru.

Re: Random Anime Thread
Just finished Kids on the Slope (AKA Sakamichi no Apollon) last night. GREAT anime. I normally don't get into slice of life stuff, but this show pulled it off perfectly. The musical performances were always fun to watch, and the entire soundtrack was brilliant. Most importantly, the entire story just felt... real to me, I guess. It's a very human story that almost anyone can relate to. The exhilarating awkwardness of your first love, meeting your best friend, dealing with the bumps on the road of life- we all go through all of these things. The realism of this show was driven home by the fact that it was relatively free of the typical anime tropes (tsundere, moe, etc) that you would expect out of a slice of life anime.
It definitely gets my vote for anime of the year. If I had the chance, I would change almost nothing about it.

Re: Random Anime Thread
Seitokai no Ichizon LV2 was definitely a big letdown after season 1, the voice acting change + a lack of the comedy-style present from the first season really didn't cut it. Hearing Noto Mamiko's Ojou-sama voice, the last farewell episode and the episode where Key-kun's sister rustled everyone's jimmys were the highlights. But yeah, the spark that made me give season 1 a 10/10 just wasn't there.
Kids on the Slope was fantastic, there were a few things about it that stopped me from giving it a perfect score but I can't recall at the moment and there's really no need to bring up anything bad about the show.

Yeah, there were a couple plot things in Kids on the Slope that were a bit weak, but they didn't really damage my overall opinion of the show.
My roommate and I are now four episodes into Steins;Gate. Amazing show so far. I've laughed out loud at least a few times during every single episode, which anime pretty much never makes me do. Very excited to continue the show later this week.

Re: Random Anime Thread
I just breezed through Joshiraku. Definitely has a lot of humor that only Japanese would get but the translator who did Jormungand for GG did this as well so he did a really good job translating some of the puns and jokes into an American manner.
But alongside that the show had a lot of American references as well as other popular things like the Amazon scene (which they call Jungle) and was hilarious.

Re: Random Anime Thread
Started Trigun and Black Rock Shooter this week. Trigun feels like a poor man's Cowboy Bebop, but it is slowly getting better. I like Vash's sense of humor. I've only caught the first episode of Black Rock Shooter so far, but the premise is interesting. I know nothing about the backstory of the series, which makes it a bit more interesting in my opinion.

Re: Random Anime Thread
TBH I liked Trigun more than Cowboy Bebop 'cause I liked the characters and plot more. Cowboy Bebop felt like it dragged on IMO for a bit too long.
BRS starts off really good and then goes somewhere that I don't even.

Re: Random Anime Thread
Rooby is crazy. Bebop has much better characterization than Trigun, but both are good.
BRS is... something else. It's an anime based on a character illustration based on a song (if you can somehow imagine that happening).

I'm not saying the characters in Cowboy Bebop weren't done well, I just personally liked the character's personalities in Trigun more.

How does that even happen? I'll have to read up on that once I finish the series. I was going to watch some more of it tonight, but I couldn't find any streaming websites that had it in any remotely viewable quality. The first episode was on Youtube in HD, but that was it. I'll have to find another way to watch it tomorrow I guess.
I watched a bit more Trigun, and it actually got significantly better already. The two episodes with the giant sand steamer/train thing were very good. Definitely looking forward to watching the rest of it.

Re: Random Anime Thread
Just finished Black Rock Shooter. I think I'll give it a what-the-fuck out of ten. The first couple of episodes were interesting, but after that it just got really weird and completely incomprehensible at parts. It all made sense by the end, but the pacing was terrible. If it had been a longer show I definitely would have dropped it at episode five or six, but I powered through and finished it instead. Fun ending, interesting plot, a couple of good fight scenes (most of them were kind of meh for me- could barely tell what was going on half the time), terrible pacing and execution.

So, this season was much more lackluster than I thought.

This season was like a complete reversal of my expectations, I'm enjoying things I thought I would drop and I dropped the shows I was looking forward to.

I dunno if I'm the only person watching Minami-ke, but it's an awesome slice of life and Hosaka never stops being a bad-ass.

God if I dropped every new show this season except for Love Live I wouldn't even be mad, it's the only thing worth putting aside other things for. I can't find anything to complain about it yet, I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a Sunrise show this much.

Re: Random Anime Thread
So I never would have guessed, but Zettai Karen Children The Unlimited is actually quite superb, I haven't enjoyed catching up with a series that much in awhile.
I might consider checking out the first two seasons at some point, even though it's not really necessary with relation to this show.
Oh apparently it's just a FIFTY TWO EPISODE show and a one ep ova, I probably won't get around to it then.
Unless some special circumstances arise.
