Fate/Zero: Being Lancer is Suffering

Prequel to Fate/Stay Night. Adapted from the novel by Gen (Madoka)... yeah.

Okay on to the first ep. A very lovely and very talky first episode. This isn't actually far off from the mark, things don't pick up action until the first servant battle between Saber and Lancer, whenever they get around to that. There might be another talk episode before things escalate, I don't remember;it's pretty much a blank from the intro of Kariya starts his suck filled life and the fighting. If you don't care much for motivations (and quite honestly only like 1 person has a motive outside of LOLZ mage war), you can probably like skip 42 minutes straight to the summoning.

Overall though interest is held and I'll be looking forward to the weekly fix.

I'm going to call it right now, CG spaceship and CG tentacle monster.

Does this follow Fate Hollow Ataraxia? Or the Heaven's Feel arc of FSN?

In hindsight though I don't see much reason for there to have been so many time jumps in the episode except to tell us that Kirei and Tohsaka were chosen 8 years before the fight happened, damn they had to wait awhile. I think that all could have been told without attempted to confuse us as much as possible. I halfway expected to see Emiya Shirou when they skipped forward.

It follows the Fate/Zero novels.

It's a prequel to F/SN, which shows the events of the 4th Holy Grail War (the one that happened before F/SN and destroyed the city). Kiritsugu Emiya is Shirou's adoptive father if you remember.

I do remember, and I remember being told there were 3 arcs in the FSN game and that the first show went over the fate arc, and the movie was the UBW arc, so I thought maybe this one was the Heaven's Feel arc since they mentioned something about it in this ep. I know that Kiritsugu Emiya was Shirou's "father" but I didn't know how much time spanned in the original FSN game, so maybe it covered more than one war in the 3 story arcs.

The three arcs in FSN happen during FSN's timespan. Fate Zero is way before FSN ever happened.

The Heaven's Feel arc of FSN deals with Sakura's story and how her life sucked.

Her life already seems to suck enough in Fate/Zero.

Ahem, ep 2 out. Mai Kadowaki has to sound even lolier than before. Something else probably happened, I don't remember.

Another solid ep, felt like I was watching Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible when Assassin was being sneaky.

Anyways, warring next episode so looking forward to it.

Maybe if Irisviel used her magic in more of a Mahou Shoujo-ish manner it would work better.

Is it just me, or does Saber seem to get beaten by Lancers in the first meetings? It's like Lancer is a counter pick to Saber or something.

Yeah, the thing was pretty hefty CGI but Brian and I agreed that would be the most likely play out so it wasn't shocking.

At least the CG was well animated.

That's an understatement, it blended in with the regular animation really well.
Fate/Zero is everything FSN wanted to be, I think it might just be better to pretend like the FSN anime never existed, much like the Tsukihime anime.

What is it with this show and walking around people while you're lecturing them?

Brian was telling me that this episode was really good, although the show is still staying solid, and doesn't let down in entertainment, I'm still curious why he was talking about this episode in particular.

I wasn't really, but Irisviel has the whole tokyo drift thing goin' down.
